Autumn-planted bulbs are a great way to fill your garden or balcony with colour in spring. With a little effort you can enjoy abundant flowers for months.
When to plant autumn bulbs
The best time is from September to November. This gives the bulbs time to root before winter and flower in spring.
How to plant bulbs – planting depth
- Choose a spot with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole two to three times as deep as the bulb is tall.
- Place the bulb with the pointed tip facing up.
- Fill with soil and firm gently.
- Water well.
Watering and care
Autumn bulbs do not need much water: water only when the soil is dry. During flowering you can water a little more to make the blooms last longer.
