What is switchgrass?
Switchgrass belongs to Panicum, a genus of over 450 grass species found in tropical and temperate regions around the world. Panicum virgatum is a perennial grass that reaches 70 cm to 1 metre tall, is native to North America and grows vigorously.
Its tall, slender leaves form dense clumps that ripple in the wind, adding a sense of calm and harmony to your garden.
Switchgrass is known for its drought tolerance, making it ideal for areas with limited rainfall – an excellent choice for a sustainable garden.
It attracts beneficial insects and birds, while helping to prevent erosion and improve soil quality by adding organic matter.
Switchgrass grows quickly, providing dense ground cover in a short time.
