A Showpiece in the Garden or a Bonsai on the Balcony?
Lagerstroemia indica, also known as crape myrtle, is a truly striking ornamental plant: a deciduous shrub or small tree with abundant summer flowers that can be used in many ways, depending on your space and the shape you want.
Thanks to its attractive growth, small to medium size and good response to pruning, it can be shaped either as an ornamental shrub for the courtyard and garden, or even as a bonsai for lovers of unusual and collectable plants.
It stands out for its abundant summer flowers in shades of pink, purple, red or white, depending on the variety, and over the years it develops a beautiful decorative trunk. It is ideal for sunny spots, as direct sun encourages better growth and more flowers.
It can be planted in the garden, the courtyard or a large pot, and with regular pruning it can be kept lower and more compact, depending on the shape you want. It combines striking looks, hardiness and flexibility, making it an excellent choice both for ornamental planting and for growing as a bonsai.
