Olive Bonsai Olea europaea – 1 pc
The olive is native to the Mediterranean, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years. It has a long tradition, both for the nutritional value of olive oil and olives and for its symbolic meaning as a long-lived tree that stands for peace, abundance, beauty and wisdom.
As a small tree, the olive bonsai needs very little care, as once established – after its first year – it is very tolerant of both low and high temperatures. It loves sunny positions, but in winter it is best brought indoors to protect it from frost. Water it well and carefully whenever the soil has dried out sufficiently.
Pruning is best done in late winter, so that the olive bonsai responds the following spring – specifically, before March and the last frost. Remove unnecessary branches so that in spring the tree puts all its energy into forming new, strong branches for the design you want. Repot every 2 to 3 years into slightly alkaline soil, pH 7-8.
Feed from March to October, at temperatures up to 35°C. Ideally, use a fertiliser higher in nitrogen and lower in phosphorus and potassium – that is, a growth fertiliser such as: (24345 and 12463)
*Live plants are shipped with prepayment only, to ensure the plant arrives safely and in perfect condition.
