A different kind of plant!
Pachypodium geayi, sometimes called “Madagascar palm”, is a striking succulent from south-west Madagascar and is especially popular with collectors for its hardiness and exotic appearance.
Its swollen trunk stores water, allowing it to survive harsh, dry conditions. It is not very demanding to grow, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced succulent growers.
It has a thick, cylindrical, spiny trunk. The leaves are long, narrow and grey-green, clustered at the top of the trunk, giving it a palm-like look. Its long, sharp spines protect the plant from animals.
What makes Pachypodium geayi special is its white, fragrant flowers, which appear in spring or summer on mature plants.
It is a slow-growing plant, but it can reach a considerable size over the years.
