Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ is one of the most striking Japanese maples, especially known for the distinctive colour of its leaves.
In spring it is covered in lush purple foliage, which turns an intense, glowing red-crimson in summer.
It is a deciduous tree that usually grows to about 2.5 metres, but in ideal conditions it can reach 7-8 metres.
Acer palmatum Atropurpureum especially loves partly shaded spots; take care with direct sun, as its leaves can scorch.
Like most maples, it is slow-growing and prefers free-draining soil to grow well.
Plant height: 20 cm
Pot diameter: 9 cm
