Lemon balm/Melissa officinalis
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis, also known simply as melissa) is a plant that grows in the Mediterranean countries and across southern Europe. It belongs to the mint family and shares many of its traits. Lemon balm stands out for its distinctive lemony scent and for how much bees love it, thanks to its abundant nectar.
Since the Middle Ages lemon balm has been a much-loved herb, prized for its aromatic oils and fresh lemon fragrance.
Its fresh leaves make a refreshing, lemony herbal tea, hot or iced.
It is also a wonderful plant for bees and pollinators, bringing life to any garden.
Lemon balm is a popular herb for relaxing herbal teas and is easy to grow in pots or in the garden.
In Greece it is often used to flavour sweets, ice creams and herbal teas.
For best results, combine with one of our fertilisers (use once a month after the first month from planting).
