Iron: an essential nutrient for healthy plants
Iron plays a key role in plant growth, as it is essential for producing chlorophyll. Chlorophyll in turn is the “key” to healthy photosynthesis, supplying plants with the energy they need.
Which plants need more iron?
Some plants, such as gardenia, camellia, hydrangea, azalea, begonia, rhododendron, roses, dracaena, mandevilla (dipladenia) and lemon trees, need more iron for healthy growth.
Signs of iron deficiency:
- Yellowing between the leaf veins, while the veins stay green.
- Gradual yellowing of the veins too.
- Yellow to white colour across the whole leaf.
- Chlorotic plants and trees.
- Weak growth and reduced flowering.
- Low yields.
The solution: chelated iron
Chelated iron is an ideal way to correct iron deficiency, offering:
-
Helps correct chlorosis: works effectively to revive plants showing signs of iron deficiency.
-
Fully water-soluble: dissolves easily in water for even uptake by the plants.
- Vivid green colour: boosts chlorophyll production, giving leaves a rich, vivid green colour.
- Healthy growth: supports healthy, steady plant growth.
- Easy to use: odourless and simple to apply.
Best time to apply:
The ideal time to apply chelated iron is at the end of winter.
Apply chelated iron as soon as signs of chlorosis appear on your plants.
Useful tips:
For gradual iron uptake, water your plants with chelated iron in the late afternoon, 2-3 hours after a normal watering.
