Spearmint (Mentha spicata) is a species of mint native to Europe and south-west Asia. It is widely used as a herb to flavour all kinds of dishes and in refreshing herbal teas.
It is a perennial with spreading rhizomes, growing 30 to 100 cm tall. Its stems and leaves are more or less covered in fine hairs, and its rhizome is fleshy and wide-spreading. The leaves are oval, 5 to 9 cm long and 1.5 to 3 cm wide. The small flowers are pink or pale purple and are borne in clusters on spikes at the tips of the stems.
For best results, combine with one of our fertilisers (use once a month after the first month from planting).
Spearmint germination instructions are included.
