Variety: Principe Borghese / Solanum lycopersicum
Like the Greek variety, this Santorini-type small tomato (Principe Borghese) is a climbing type, extremely tough – it copes with harsh weather and with little water and fertiliser!
The Santorini tomato is a farm product with a special history. The tomato first came to Greece in 1818, brought by a Capuchin monk to the monastery of Ano Syros. Its cultivation later spread, and by around 1900 some 20,000 stremmata (about 2,000 hectares) were grown on Santorini! Since then, sadly, cultivation on the island has declined considerably.
For best results, combine with one of our fertilisers (use once a month after the first month from planting).
Santorini tomato germination/growing instructions are included.
