Mini basil is a very compact form of basil, prized for its dense foliage and its many small, green, fragrant leaves. It grows into a pretty little bush, which makes it ideal for small pots and window boxes.
Its fresh leaves can be picked gradually and used straight in cooking. Its small size makes it especially practical for urban gardens, small balconies and growing near the kitchen.
It prefers warm, bright spots and can be grown outdoors or in bright spots indoors. Sow mainly in spring, once temperatures have risen; in a sheltered, warm environment you can start earlier.
It needs well-drained soil and regular watering, keeping the compost slightly moist but never waterlogged. Picking the leaves often also helps the plant stay dense and compact.
