The flowers are a striking pink-purple and funnel-shaped.

Care / growing the Toluca cactus
Like most cacti, Mammillaria polythele 'Toluca' needs little care. Water sparingly once the soil has dried out well and ensure good drainage; in winter it goes dormant and watering should be reduced to a minimum. It loves sunny positions, which help it produce its beautiful flowers, and needs protection from very low temperatures and high humidity.
It is a fairly slow-growing cactus that can reach 15 cm tall and 20 cm wide. Use a suitable cactus compost and feed with a special cactus and succulent fertiliser about once a month during the growing season. In winter there is no need to feed the plant.
