A Black-Blue Anthocyanin Variety
Indigo Rose is a special, rare tomato with a deep purple to almost black colour, thanks to its high content of anthocyanins – natural pigments also found in fruits such as blueberries. It was one of the first tomato varieties in which anthocyanins appear strongly in the fruit itself, not just in the plant.
The fruits are small to medium-sized, round and smooth. The colour gets darker where they receive direct sun, while the underside and inside turn pink-red when fully ripe. Harvest when the fruit has a slight sheen and gives a little to the touch.
Its flavour is balanced, with gentle sweetness and light acidity, making it ideal for eating fresh, in salads and for special dishes.
Indigo Rose is easy to grow for beginners and experienced growers alike. It grows in the garden, greenhouse or a large pot and needs plenty of sun to develop its characteristic dark colour. It ripens relatively late compared with common varieties, but cropping is steady and reliable.
It's an open-pollinated variety, so you can save seeds for future sowings. As well as its striking looks, it stands out for its natural anthocyanin content.
An ideal choice for anyone who wants something truly different in their vegetable garden.
Planting/growing instructions for the “Indigo Rose” tomato are included with every order.
