Bamboo “Smaragd” (Phyllostachys viridiglaucescens) – one of the most impressive hardy, evergreen giant bamboos for European gardens!
Emerald bamboo, also known as blue-green bamboo, is a striking, elegant bamboo that can reach 4–10 metres tall.
This evergreen, frost-hardy bamboo originally comes from central and southern China and is truly striking with its glossy green leaves.
In warm, humid conditions it grows very fast and makes a beautiful screen. It needs regular watering and nutrient-rich soil. As a running bamboo, it's best planted with a rhizome barrier to keep it in check.
Bamboo leaves come in various shapes and sizes, but they're usually long and narrow, with a pointed tip.
Bamboo has many uses, including making furniture, musical instruments and more.
