Dandelion/Taraxacum officinale
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is a plant with toothed leaves and bright yellow flowers that grows wild all over Greece. Its name has Greek roots, and it has been gathered as an edible green since ancient times.
In Greece, dandelion leaves are a much-loved part of the traditional diet, eaten boiled as horta with olive oil and lemon, or fresh in salads.
It is an easy, undemanding plant that grows almost anywhere, and its bright flowers are an important early source of nectar for bees.
Dandelion leaves contain potassium, iron, magnesium and vitamins A, B, C and D, which is why they are popular in salads. Dandelion can also be enjoyed as a herbal tea.
Its roasted roots have traditionally been used to make a caffeine-free coffee substitute.
Young leaves are the most tender; older leaves have a more pronounced bitter flavour.
For best results, combine with one of our fertilisers (use once a month after the first month from planting).
Dandelion germination instructions are included.
