Sea Buckthorn: The Golden Superfruit
Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a hardy deciduous shrub native to the cool temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It is known for its bright orange berries, which are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and is often called a superfood.
It is a true treasure trove of nutrients.
What makes sea buckthorn special?
It is rich in vitamins A, C, E, K and B vitamins. It contains minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium, and is rich in antioxidants, amino acids and fibre.
It stands out for its high vitamin C content, higher than that of oranges!
Its berries are naturally rich in antioxidants.
The berries also contain omega-3 and omega-7 fatty acids, and sea buckthorn oil is widely used in skin and hair care products. (This information is general and is not medical advice.)
Sea buckthorn is a very adaptable plant that tolerates cold winters, hot summers, drought and poor soils. It prefers sun but also tolerates partial shade. Its small, yellow-green flowers appear in early spring.
In autumn it produces dense clusters of bright orange berries, which are eaten fresh or dried, or made into juice, jam, compote or drinks. Sea buckthorn can be used as a hedging plant or as a specimen plant in the garden.
